Case study
COVID-19 Vaccine Scheduler

CVS Health was tasked by the federal government, specifically the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Defense (DoD), to develop an appointment scheduler that would be ready for use as soon as the first COVID-19 vaccines were distributed.

Skills highlighted: User Experience Design (UX/UI)  |  Designed first COVID-19 vaccine scheduler (Sketch and Figma)  |  Wrote use cases and personas  |  Iterated design almost daily based on Federal Government mandates  |  Resolved design accessibility defects uncovered through government audits

Challenge:

Design and launch the first COVID-19 vaccine scheduler alongside the release of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, ensuring all clinical content within the flow is reviewed and approved by federal government officials.

My Role:
Creating UX for the end-to-end flow of the vaccine scheduler:

  • Crafting user journey maps for the extensive process of scheduling the vaccine.

  • Designed over 40 wireframe variations for different access levels (e.g., CVS.com retail-only accounts, retail and prescription accounts) while ensuring each page seamlessly integrated large amounts of educational content without compromising the user experience.

  • Quickly adapted and updated approved wireframes in response to new information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which was often released daily during the pandemic and continued after the scheduler’s initial launch.

  • Promoted to Design Lead after the initial launch to lead the effort of integrating the COVID-19 vaccine into the full vaccine scheduler, and later into the next-generation scheduler, which expanded to include not just CVS/pharmacy locations but also MinuteClinic sites.
